Promotion season, and you need a document your manager can take upstairs.
Help me write a promotion case my manager can defend in a calibration meeting. Structure: 1. **Claim.** One sentence: the level I am arguing for and why I am already operating there. 2. **Evidence.** Per expectation of the target level, the specific work that demonstrates it, with dates and outcomes. Use only what I supply. 3. **Scope and durability.** Show that the work was not a one-off: repeated behaviour, widening blast radius, others relying on it. 4. **The gaps.** Where my evidence is thin or missing. Say this honestly, because the committee will find it anyway, and suggest what I could add in the next quarter. 5. **Who can corroborate each point.** Do not inflate anything. If a piece of evidence does not support the level I am claiming, say so. Level expectations: What I have done:
Raises and moves. Promotion cases, reviews, offers, hard conversations and deciding whether to leave.
