exactly one thing.
And it forgets that one thing the moment you need something else. We built Promptory because we got tired of losing the same text over and over.
Where this started
Poetry, icons, and a lot of scrolling up.
It began with poetry. Writing a poem means asking"what rhymes with this" roughly a million times, and every single time the good phrasing that came back went nowhere. Next poem, same question, typed again from scratch.
Then it happened again while designing icons — except this time the clipboard made it worse. Copy the text you need. Copy an icon. Congratulations, the text is gone. Scroll up. Find it. Copy it again. Paste. Repeat until you start questioning your life choices.
The clipboard is a brilliant tool for moving one thing a short distance. It is a catastrophic filing system.
So Promptory is the thing that should have been there the whole time: somewhere the good text goes when you find it, that is still there next week when you need it again.
Who's building it
Hi, I'm Niki.
Developer, designer, and a fairly curious mathematician. I like building things, taking them apart, and finding out how they work — usually in that order, occasionally all at once.
Promptory is a one-person project. I started it partly because I missed having something genuinely interesting to build, and partly because I wanted to use it myself. That second reason turns out to be the useful one: every feature has to survive me actually reaching for it, which is a slow filter but an honest one.
If something in here feels thought through, it's because it annoyed me first.
Three things we won't trade away.
Your device holds the real copy
Prompts are saved on your machine, and the app never waits for the network to show them. Sync just puts a copy somewhere safe. Stay signed out forever and nothing about it breaks.
It should see almost nothing
No analytics, no ads, nothing watching which pages you open. It gets the text you select and the box you right-click. That is genuinely all of it.
Nothing disappears quietly
Delete a folder and the prompts inside move up instead of leaving with it. Export the whole library whenever you like. Losing your own work to a mis-click is exactly the problem we started with.
Where it's going
The browser is the start, not the point.
The clipboard problem isn't a browser problem. It follows you into every app you use, so eventually Promptory should too.
