The obvious questions.
- Is it really free?
- Yes, and personal use is meant to stay that way. Promptory stores your prompts on your device, so one more personal user costs almost nothing to support. Charging for that would be charging for the wrong thing.
- So what will you charge for?
- Shared team libraries, when they exist. A team passing prompts between each other gets value that clearly justifies a subscription, and it costs real money to run.
- Will free features move behind a paywall later?
- No. Anything listed under Personal today stays under Personal. New paid features will be additions, not things taken away from you.
- Why not sell a lifetime deal?
- Because sync costs money every month, forever, and a one-time payment does not. Lifetime pricing on a product with recurring costs gets worse the more people buy it — which is a bad thing to wish on yourself.
- What happens to my prompts if Promptory shuts down?
- They are already on your device, and you can export the whole library to a file whenever you like. Nothing is held hostage in an account.
