Terms

The short version is: your prompts are yours.

The long version is below, and it says the same thing with more words because that is what these documents are for.

Last updated 20 September 2026

You own your content

We claim nothing over the prompts you write or save.

Keep your own backups

No service is immune to failure, including this one.

Leave whenever

Uninstall, or ask for your account and its contents to be deleted.

By installing or using Promptory, you agree to these terms.

The service

Promptory is a tool for saving, organising and reusing text prompts. It runs as a browser extension, and syncs to our servers when you sign in.

Your account

You may create an account through Google, Facebook or Apple. You are responsible for keeping access to that account secure. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been accessed without your permission.

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, and at least 13.

Your content

Your prompts remain yours. We claim no ownership over anything you save.

You grant us only the narrow permission needed to run the service: to store, back up and transmit your content so it syncs between your devices. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

You are responsible for what you save, and for having the right to save it. Do not use Promptory to store unlawful material, or content that infringes someone else's rights.

Prompts you submit to the public library

You may suggest a prompt for the public Promptory library. Submitting one is optional, and separate from your own private prompts, which are never published.

When you submit a prompt:

  • You confirm it is yours to give. You wrote it, or you otherwise have the right to share it. Do not submit anything copied from a source that does not permit it.
  • You grant us a licence to publish it. Specifically, a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, edit, translate and distribute the submission as part of the Promptory library, including in the apps and on this website. You keep ownership, and you remain free to use your own prompt however you like.
  • We may edit it. Usually for length, clarity or house style.
  • We are not obliged to publish it, and we may remove a published submission at any time.
  • Attribution is optional. If you give a name, we may show it alongside the prompt. If you do not, the submission is published without attribution.

Every submission is reviewed by a person before it appears anywhere. Do not submit prompts designed to make a model produce illegal material, bypass safety measures, or harm someone.

If you want a published submission removed, email us and we will take it down.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law, or help anyone else do so
  • attempt to access other users' data
  • disrupt, overload or probe the service
  • resell or redistribute the service as your own

We may suspend accounts that do these things.

Availability

Promptory is provided "as is". We aim to keep it running and your data intact, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service.

Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Your prompts are stored locally on your device as well as on our servers, but no system is immune to failure.

Changes to the service

We may add, change or remove features. If we plan to discontinue the service, we will give account holders reasonable notice and a way to export their data.

Ending the agreement

You may stop using Promptory at any time by uninstalling it, and may request deletion of your account and its contents.

We may terminate an account that breaches these terms, or where required by law.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data or profits, arising from your use of Promptory.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, we will update the date above and notify account holders by email. Continuing to use Promptory after that means you accept the revised terms.

Anything here unclear?

Legal writing is not famous for clarity. If a line here does not make sense, ask and I will explain it in plain words, and probably rewrite it.
