Eating well somewhere you don't know the food culture.
Tell me what to eat in this place, with enough detail that I can actually get it. 1. **Five things to seek out.** For each: what it is, what it tastes like, when in the day it is eaten, and where it is normally sold, for example a market stall, a bakery, a sit-down restaurant. 2. **One thing that is overrated for visitors** and what to have instead. 3. **How ordering works.** Counter or table, whether to queue, how portions are sized, whether sharing is normal, how to pay. 4. **The words I need,** including how to ask what is good today and how to say I do not eat something. Do not name specific restaurants as definitely open or recommend places you cannot verify. If you mention a named institution, mark it [verify it still exists]. Describe types of place rather than trading on stale specifics. Place: Anything I don't eat:
Food, language and custom. What to eat and how to order it, the phrases you will use, and what reads as rude to a local.
