Etiquette and customs I should know

Before a trip where getting it wrong would be rude rather than just awkward.

Tell me the social rules of this place, aimed at a visitor who wants to be unobtrusive rather than to blend in perfectly.

1. **Greetings and address.** How people greet, whether to use first names, formality with strangers and staff.
2. **Money.** Tipping norms, haggling or not, who pays, cash versus card culture.
3. **Eating and drinking.** Timing, sharing, ordering, what is considered rude at a table.
4. **Dress.** Where clothing matters: religious sites, restaurants, small towns.
5. **Things that read as rude without visitors realising.** This is the section I most want.

Separate firm rules from soft preferences, and say where practice differs between cities and rural areas, or between generations. If a custom has changed recently or varies a lot, say so rather than flattening it into a rule. Do not invent laws.
