Two minutes standing up with a glass, and you'd rather not read it off your phone.
Write me a toast for this occasion, built to be spoken rather than read. Structure: 1. An opening line that gets attention without a joke that needs landing. 2. One specific story about the person, told in under forty seconds. It should show something true about them rather than be funny for its own sake. 3. The turn: what that story says about them, in a sentence or two. 4. The raise: address the room, name the person, give them the glass. Rules: ninety seconds to two minutes spoken, so roughly 200 to 280 words. Short sentences. No lists. Nothing that needs a punchline to work. Nothing anyone present would find awkward, including exes, family tensions and money. Use only stories I give you. Do not invent anecdotes, and flag anything you are unsure I actually said. Occasion and who I am speaking about: Stories and details I can use:
Cards, toasts and notes. The words that go with it: card messages, toasts, thank-yous, condolences and invitations.
