What is this email really doing?

Before rewriting a draft you have already rewritten twice.

Before you rewrite anything, tell me three things: what I am actually asking for, what the reader will think I want, and where those two differ. Then give me the two-line version that closes the gap. If the draft is already fine to send, say so and stop.
